Originally these would have been filled with gunpowder and the young Powder Monkeys would carry them to the cannons. Nowadays, they are lined inside with non-toxic, bituminous pitch to make them waterproof and have many uses.
Three sizes are available and the small and medium sizes are ideal as single wine bottle coolers or for dried flower arrangements. The large gunpowder keg makes an ideal umbrella or walking stick stand – or, of course, to store your old Gold Sovereigns!
